After a long summer break comes to an end, Formula 1 arrives this week at Spa-Francorchamps.
So let’s take a look at the highlights that emerged from the FP1 and FP2 of the Belgian Grand Prix.
Just before the end of the FP1, both Hamilton and Latifi were on their flaying laps. The Briton was behind Latifi and as he went to overtake, the Canadian driver closed the gap. Due to the quick reaction of Hamilton, a disastrous accident was avoided.
Kimi Raikkonen was involved in a bizarre incident at the halfway stage of FP1. The Finnish driver clipped the inside wall of the pitlane when coming back to his garage, reporting damage to the left-hand side of his car.
Lewis Hamilton endured a difficult FP1 session as he struggled with straight-line speed after opting for a high-downforce set up to his Mercedes. The Briton finished eighteenth, ahead of both the Haas cars.
Charles Leclerc, who won his first race at Spa, made a catastrophic error at turn 6, the Monégasque driver lost control of his car and went flying into the barriers, leading to the first red flag of the FP2 session.
Verstappen topped the FP2 session and was 0.41 seconds ahead of Bottas. And with just 3 minutes remaining in the session, the Dutchman lost the rear end of his car and crashed just after the Les Combes corner, which subsequently resulted in the end of the session.
