Derek's statement on why he left

"We had a vision five years ago to turn the Marlins franchise around, and as CEO, I have been proud to put my name and reputation on the line to make our plan a reality. Through hard work, trust and accountability, we transformed every aspect of the franchise, reshaping the workforce, and developing a long-term strategic plan for success,"

How the staff were shockingly told about it

Marlins people were told Jeter is out on a conference call this am. All are said to have been in shock.

Marlins President firing back

"There were likely no real philosophical differences. There were revenue promises made that didn’t come true. Jeter thought not being me was all that was needed to succeed. He could no longer blame old regime. Been too many years."

The real reason jeter left

Heard Jeter believed going into the lockout that there would be another $10M-$15M that the Marlins would spend on the 2022 roster, and that strategy evaporated during the lockout. It was central to Jeter’s decision to leave as CEO.

MLB commissioner rob Manfred on the sudden update

"On behalf of Major League Baseball, I thank Derek for his service to the Marlins, the communities of Miami and the game. Derek is a winner on and off the field, Derek is a pillar of our game and we look forward to his future contributions to Baseball,"
