Boxing is in his blood

Ruiz's grandfather owned a boxing gym in Mexicali that was used by former featherweight champion Jorge Paez

Boxing was not his first love 

As a kid growing up, Ruiz was in love with Baseball. However, his father forced him to lace up the boxing gloves and the rest as they say is history. 

Made In Mexico 

Ruiz has a tattoo  on the inside of his right bicep  'Hecho en Mexico'. It translates to 'Made in Mexico' and signifies his proud Mexican hreitage. 

Amateur Career 

In his amateur career Ruiz's record was 105-5. He won two Mexican national junior Olympics gold medals among other accolades 

The Destroyer 

Ruiz got his nickname the Destroyer as a child as he would wreck anything and everything he got his hands on.
