Chase Elliott Calls Out Hendrick Motorsports Revealing What Lost Him the Race

NASCAR

Chase Elliott, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion, was frustrated after finishing second in the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard, a road course race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He revealed that he lost too much ground during a pit cycle, which allowed Michael McDowell to take the lead and win the race.

Elliott's pursuit of victory

Elliott entered the race with the goal of securing a win and clinching a playoff berth. He ran in the top three for most of the race and was in contention for the victory until a late-race caution. He pitted for fresh tires and fuel, but lost several positions on pit road. He restarted seventh with 10 laps to go and quickly made his way to second, but could not catch McDowell, who had stayed out on older tires.

Elliott's disappointment and criticism

Elliott was visibly unhappy with the result and wished he had that little bit extra to get the win that has eluded him all season long. He was clear about what cost him the race as he called out his team. "Yeah, I just lost too much ground under that pit cycle," Elliott said. "Was trying to pace myself for the long haul, kinda had that green flag feel so… and I thought I did that, just needed a better job getting through the traffic."

Elliott's outlook and standings

Despite missing out on the win, Elliott still secured his spot in the playoffs based on points. He is currently fourth in the standings, behind his Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson, William Byron, and Alex Bowman. He has four races left in the regular season to try to add another win to his resume and improve his playoff seeding. He is also one of the favorites to win the championship, as he has proven to be one of the best road course racers in NASCAR history.
