Chase Elliott’s altercation with Denny Hamlin at the Coca-Cola 600 cost him big time, as he received a 1-race suspension from NASCAR.
Meanwhile, Hamiln, who was furious after the race, complained to NASCAR about Elliott’s possible suspension. Interestingly, one Elliott fan unintentionally helped Hamlin appeal against Elliott.
Elliott’s suspension
On lap 182 of the Coca-Cola 600, Hamlin almost pushed Elliott into the wall. In reply, Elliott momentarily lost his cool and retaliated, which led to Hamlin’s crash. Hamlin was furious after the race and demanded Elliott’s suspension.
NASCAR’s comments on Elliott’s suspension
Senior Vice President of NASCAR, Elton Sawyer said, “We landed on the fact that this was an act that definitely… was intentional… hooking someone in the right rear and turning them head-on into the fence is just not something we can tolerate.” As a result, Elliott will miss the race at the World Wide Technology Raceway this weekend and Corey LaJoie will replace him.
In his ‘Actions Detrimental’ podcast, Hamlin revealed that he referenced one Elliott fan named, Dawsonville Pool Room’s tweet in his appeal against Elliott. He said, “I don’t mind Chase Elliott fans, some of them are sane, most of them are not. Even we got the Dawsonville Pool Room saying, ‘Oh boy, we need a substitute driver next week.’ You probably know you f**ked up.”
