The Coca-Cola 600 had one of the most controversial moments of the season, as Chase Elliott intentionally crashed into Denny Hamlin.

After the race, Hamlin vented out his frustration and demanded Elliott’s suspension; at the same time, Elliott termed it as ‘unfortunate circumstances’. Meanwhile, their former teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr recently opened up about that incident.

Elliott receives suspension

As per NASCAR, Elliott intentionally crashed into Hamlin after the latter pushed the HMS driver into the wall. Hence, they suspended Elliott for the next race at World Wide Technology Raceway in Illinois. Notably, Hamlin appealed to NASCAR against Elliott; he also slammed Elliott on Twitter for intentional right hook.

Dale Earnhardt Jr reacts

During the ‘Dale Jr Download’ podcast, Earnhardt Jr could not believe the behavior of his former teammates. He said, “So you’re telling me Chase Elliott, the guy who won the Xfinity Series championship here, one of my teammates and drives for Hendrick Motorsports, which I just love, had a crash with Denny Hamlin, who’s a part of Dirty Mo Media?... Shoot! Damn! I know those guys really well. Doesn’t sound like them.”

Dale Jr revealed the real reason behind their clash

“I think they’ve had history… There was a restart and it kind of gets packed up. Denny is sliding up into Chase, basically the same thing that happened a lap or two later when the crash goes down. You know, I saw that, and I was like, ‘Ooh, Denny Man, you’re gonna pi** him off’... Honestly, anytime somebody slides into you, man, you just lose it”
