Many thought the Chicago Street Race would be a disaster. On the other hand, some fans had high hopes for the race. Safe to say, both sets of fans got their wish.

Meanwhile, NASCAR left no stone unturned, in terms of the security of the race course. Unfortunately, there were reportedly several security breaches, and fans bash them for their failure.

The Ups and Downs of Chicago Street Race

The race started an hour late due to rain and also the laps were reduced from 100 to 75. The rain certainly made the race more entertaining, as drivers found it difficult to control their cars on the track. Also, there was a huge pile-up of 14 cars on lap 49 at Turn 11, which caused plenty of chaos. In the end, the Kiwi driver, Shane van Gisbergen won the race on his debut.

The security hiccup

Notably, NASCAR deployed almost 900 security guards all around the 2.14-mile race course. Leaf Productions security firm partnered with NASCAR to provide an extra layer of security. WindyCity Weather and News took to Twitter and revealed that one unauthorized vehicle appeared on the street circuit at Lake Shore Drive and Roosevelt. Later, there were reports of 20 or more cars appearing on the street course.
