Does Hailie Deegan Deserve a NASCAR Seat Despite Her Hopelessly Terrible 2023 Run?

NASCAR

Since making her debut in the Craftsman Truck Series, Deegan has not had as much impact as anticipated. Although she brought in more sponsors, her results have not been great so far in NASCAR.

As a result, many people question her ability as a NASCAR driver. Moreover, there’s a huge question mark over her NASCAR seat as well.

Hailie Deegan’s rookie year

In 2021, Deegan made her debut in the Truck Series. In Kansas, she made her debut and finished in 16th place, which was not so bad. However, she only had one top-10 finish in her rookie year. Many could argue that she was not given good equipment. However, it was not a good look for her

Her 2022 season

In 2022, she was supposed to improve. Although she had 2 top-10 finishes, her performance graph went down from the previous year. She had 7 DNFs, compared to 3 in her rookie year. Her average starting position dropped from 18.0 to 20.0. Her finishing position also dropped from 20.9 to 22.1.

A good result in the Xfinity Series debut

In 2022, she made her Xfinity Series debut in Las Vegas for SS Greenlight Racing. After qualifying in 20th place, she finished the race in 13th position, which was really impressive. It is worth noting that she had a really good debut in the Truck Series as well; however, she failed to perform afterwards.

Her 2023 season so far

In the recent race in Nashville, she finished in 28th position. Overall she is in 18th place this season in terms of points. So far, she has 0 top 5 finishes, and 1 top 10 finish. Her average finishing position is 19.9. Safe to say, her performance has been pretty poor in her 3rd season as well.

Does she deserve a NASCAR seat?

There’s no doubt that she brings sponsors to the sport and she has millions of followers on social media. However, her performance has been pretty terrible throughout her NASCAR career so far. Many talented drivers don’t get seats because of a lack of sponsors, while Deegan continues her career in NASCAR, despite some poor results. It will be interesting to see her position in NASCAR after this season, as she could well lose her seat.
