Jeff Gordon Gives Advice to His 18-Year-Old Self That Would’ve Saved Him From Bitter $15.3 Million Loss
NASCAR
4-time Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon, had a pretty legendary career. Currently, he is the Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports.
Although his racing career was perfect, he had trouble in his personal life. Recently he talked about one piece of advice he would give to his younger self regarding his personal life.
Gordon’s advice to his younger self
In a recent interview with The Charlotte Observer, he was asked about giving advice to his younger self. In reply, he took a dig at himself, as he said, “Don’t get married at age 23. That’d probably be the first thing.”
Gordon’s troubled first marriage
Notably, Gordon married Brooke Sealey at a young age. Unfortunately, it did not last, as the couple got divorced in 2003, which cost him around $15.3 million. After the divorce, Gordon started dating Ingrid Vandebosch in 2004. They got engaged and married in 2006. They now have one daughter and a son.
In the same interview, he said, “I think maybe I would just try to figure out a little bit earlier on in my life who I am, and then just 100% be myself… I was afraid to make mistakes. I was afraid to say the wrong thing. I didn’t want to lose a sponsor. I didn’t want any fans to boo me. So I wasn’t as much “me” as I would have liked to have been. But that did come over time.”
