A NASCAR driver who is also the owner of the car he is driving has been a trend since 1949. It's highly unusual that one would see such a driver today. Let's take a look in the past and get to know these drivers who were also the owners.

Lee Petty 

Petty competed from the 1950s to 1960s. During this time he was also the owner of Petty Enterprises from 1949–1961. 

Junior Johnson 

Robert Glenn Johnson Jr, was a NASCAR driver from 1950s to 1960s. He has won 50 NASCAR races during his career and retired in 1966. He was also the owner of 1965 Junior Johnson & Associates. 

James Hylton 

Born in August 1934, James was a two time winston cup series winner and was the owner of Hylton Motorsports from 1968–1993. 

Richard Childress 

He is an American NASCAR driver and currently owns Richard Childress Racing. 

Dave Marcis 

The former professional stock car racer has also been the owner of Marcis Auto Racing from 1969–1974, then in 1977; and again from 1979–2002. 

Darrell Waltrip 

He is an American motorsport analyst along with also being the owner of Darrell Waltrip Motorsports.
