What Makes the Coca-Cola 600 So Special?

On Sunday, fans will witness the longest race of the season at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Coca-Cola 600. Last year, Denny Hamlin won this race and he will be the favorite to win this year as well. 

Meanwhile, the significance of this race is huge. So, what makes the Coca-Cola 600 really special?

It is the longest race in NASCAR

With 600 miles (965 Km approx), it is the longest race in NASCAR. Moreover, it is the longest car race over an oval circuit anywhere in the world. The track length is around 1.5 miles. Last year Denny Hamlin won the race after two overtimes; he won after 5 hours and 13 minutes. 

Unique track condition


The track condition is pretty unique at Charlotte Motor Speedway because of the day-to-night transition. The race starts around 6 pm during sunlight. The second third happens at dusk and the final part of the race takes place at night under the lights.

Unique format


The race consists of 400 laps and 4 stages. Each stage consists of 100 laps. Interestingly, all four stages take place on the same day. Moreover, this race happens on Memorial Day weekend, which is the main reason the race attracts a massive crowd.
