Gary Payton II was born in Seattle, Washington, United States, on 1 December 1992. His father is Gary Payton, a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. A legendary point guard who played for the Seattle SuperSonics for 13 years

Payton was playing the best game of his career on Wednesday. He also played very well defensively as he made three of his four shots from beyond the arc. Consequently, fans are connecting his skill to that of his father.

Oregon State University was Payton's first stop in his basketball career, where he earned both first-team Pac-12 honors as well as Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors.
