After the passing of his younger sister, Ella, this past September, Bresee continued on his professional football career while being supported by his peers and family. Bresee missed four games as a result of the death of 15-year-old Ella and a troublesome kidney illness in October that sapped his energy.

Bresee relied on the game he has played since he was five years old throughout it all. He stated last month that football served as his getaway from many issues. “Having my teammates, my family, my coaches, a lot of support around me was definitely crucial during that time.”

The defensive lineman, worked out for personnel from all 32 professional teams, including Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin, New York Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, and general managers from the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars. 
While Bresee bench pressed 225 pounds 28 times while teammates and Clemson staff cheered him on, his strength was remarkable, it was his mental toughness that impressed several of his teammates.

Bresee was the top college football recruit when he arrived at Clemson three years ago. A freakishly strong athlete, he would have filled Dexter Lawrence's defensive end position for the Tigers, who had won two national championships.
