The Curious Case of Dr Disrespect's Twitch Ban

One of the most shocking incidents of 2020 was the astonishing Twitch ban of popular streamer Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm.

The most surprising thing about the whole fiasco is that nobody, including Doc himself, knows why he was banned. Let’s take a look at how the scene unfolded and what Doc did to ensure his streaming career wasn’t over overnight.

In March 2020, Doc re-signed two-year exclusive contract with Twitch. As reported by The Verge, this involved a lot of money which was ‘life-changing’ for Doc.

Things were looking good for Doc as he was being recognized as the ‘Face of Twitch’ since Shroud and Ninja were both no longer on Twitch.

However, on June 22, Microsoft announced that it was shutting down Mixer and moving its operations to Facebook. This meant that Ninja and Shroud were now free to stream on any other platform.

Shortly after, things went south for Dr Disrespect as he was permanently banned from Twitch on June 26, 2020. Dr Disrespect addressed the situation two days later on Twitter.

Thus began the 1 month sabbatical of Dr Disrespect. During this time, there were a lot of rumors and tall tales of his ban, but since Twitch and Doc were silent, all of those were completely untrue.

Finally, after doing a couple of interviews following his ban, Dr Disrespect announced his move to YouTube Gaming with his first stream on August 7, 2020.

Following his move, he also discussed how his Twitch ban gave him anxiety issues and that he still didn’t know the reason behind it.

Sometime after, he also discussed his ‘Cadet’ theory where he suggested how Twitch had to ban him to get Ninja and shroud back on the platform. He didn’t explicitly mention the two streamers but it was pretty obvious.

Since then, Doc’s move to YouTube has been successful as he collaborate with Rogue Company, Snoop Dogg, and many more. His brand growth has been on an upward trajectory and he shows no signs of stopping.

It is unlikely that Twitch or Doc will ever reveal the real reason behind his ban. However, until we hear anything from either of the parties, everything else is just a rumor of a rumor.
