What is Chronic traumatic encephalopathy?

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a progressive brain condition that is caused by repeated injuries to the head and repeated episodes of concussion. It is common in contact sports, such as boxing or American football. Most of the available studies are based on ex-athletes. It occurs due to recurrent trauma to the head and leads to short-term loss of memory, mood swings, confusion and disorientation, and difficulty in making decisions. With time as the condition worsens, it can also lead to slurred speech, memory loss, and Parkinsonism.
