Legendary actor and martial artist, Jackie Chan, is known for performing his own stunts in movies. His dedication and commitment to his craft have earned him legions of fans around the world. However, with the high risk involved in performing stunts, it’s no surprise that accidents happen. One such accident occurred during the filming of Armour of God, which left the team terrified to see Chan in excruciating pain.
The movie was a blend of action and comedy, and Chan performed many of his own stunts. During one scene, Chan had to jump from a wall onto a tree branch.
“My collaborator thought we got the shot and could move on. I disagreed. I insisted on one more take”, he recalled in his autobiography. However, the branches had gotten weak after the series of pressure put on them.
Chan fell over 15 feet to the ground below. He hit his head on a rock, which caused a skull fracture and severe bleeding in his brain. In his autobiography, Never Grow Up, the martial art icon wrote, “I had no sense of time passing. I tried to sit up, but everyone held me down”
In a barely conscious state, he was taken to the hospital. Later, he learned that a piece of bone had become lodged inside his brain as a result of a portion of his skull partially collapsing. The doctors had to remove a piece of his fragmented bone to relieve the pressure on his brain.
