On Monday, Venus Williams confessed why the tournament has a special place in her heart and it is adorable. After clinching victory against fellow American Katie Volynets, Venus engaged in a short post-match interview. The legendary tennis player talked about how her sister, Serena Williams won there the last time.

Venus Williams is all about the “big sister pride.”

As Venus went on to reminisce about her little sister’s victory at the Auckland Classic against Jessica Pegula, the crowd was taken back to another redefining “comeback” moment in tennis.

Serena Williams broke her dry spell in New Zealand.

Serena clinched victory after almost three years at the Auckland Classic in 2020. In the very same way, ASB brought Venus her much-awaited victory after a dry spell of about 18 months.

What did Venus say about her sister?

Venus said, “This is one of my favorite places to come, so I’m so excited that I made it here. I remember the last time that I was here, Serena won.”

It comes as no surprise after witnessing the adorable Williams sisters’ relationship that Venus was undoubtedly happy for Serena that day.

She said, “I remember watching and holding on to my seat, it was a great match.”

Venus expressed her gratitude to her fans.

She said, “It was so great to see you guys come out, and stay this late outside in this weather. So thank you, and I’m happy to get a win today against a great opponent.”
