‘Never Let Anyone Sign Any Checks’ – Serena Williams Once Revealed the Advice She Received From Hollywood Star Oprah Winfrey

Many individuals have influenced making Serena Williams a champion player. She has received invaluable advice and guidance from her family members and friends during her career. And Williams once revealed the advice she received from Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah Winfrey’s advice to Serena Williams.

Williams once said, “I’ve thought it would be cool to have a baby young. You know, be my road dog – like my dogs, they travel the world – but there’s always something you have to give up for success. Everything comes at a cost. Just what are you willing to pay for it?”

Further, Williams went on to add.

“I’m an athlete and I’m black, and a lot of black athletes go broke. I do not want to become a statistic, so maybe I overcompensate. But I’m paranoid. Oprah told me a long time ago, ‘You sign every check. Never let anyone sign any checks.’ ”

Serena’s campaign in Cincinnati ends.

Williams lost out to Emma Raducanu in the first round of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati. In a match lasting an hour and five minutes, the British star got the better of Williams in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.

What's next for Serena?

Serena Williams will look to come back strongly at the US Open later this month. It will be Williams’ last tournament of her professional career as she will retire after her “home” Grand Slam tournament.
