When Ronda Rousey Defended Serena Williams Over THE Controversial C-Walk at the Olympic Games

Serena Williams and Venus Williams have contributed to the sport of tennis like no other. Despite achieving superstardom, they have had their fair share of controversies. One being Serena Williams’ C- Walk after her Olympic win in 2012. However, Ronda Rousey came out in support of the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

What was the controversey about?

Many were not happy with Williams’ action, as the C-Walk was associated with gangs, as reported by ‘Daily Mail‘. The hip-hop dance rose to fame in the 1970s courtesy of ‘The Crips’- a Los Angeles gang. Hence, the athlete was criticized.

Ronda Rousey came in support of Williams.

Rousey came to Williams’ defense and took to Twitter to share her thoughts.

Serena Williams explains her intention behind the C-Walk.

As per the Tennis star, she hadn’t planned the dance. It was just something she did because she was happy. “Actually, there is a name. But I don’t know if I — it’s inappropriate. It’s just a dance we do in California.” She told the reporters.

Snoop Dogg showed Williams his support and Tweeted.

Another person who supported Serena Williams was the music icon, Snoop Dogg. He tweeted in support of her. As Snoop Dogg is seen doing the C walk in his music now and then, his support was not surprising.

Will we see Williams at the US Open?

The 40-year-old said she is motivated to play the US Open later this year, adding that playing in front of home crowd wherein she has achieved a lot of success is always special.
