Svetlana Kuznetsova Visa For USA Under Review – Set to Miss Washington Open

Former US Open champion, Svetlana Kuznetsova is forced to pull out of the 2019 Citi Open in Washington due to an unusual problem of getting the US visa as the Russian is still waiting for her US visa, something she had been waiting for weeks.

Svetlana Kuznetsova announced her withdrawal from the Citi Open as the Russian is having difficulty getting her US visa. The Washington Open is scheduled to start from next week. It is a part of the ATP World Tour 500 series and WTA International tournaments.

The two-time grand slam champion, Svetlana Kuznetsova announced her withdrawal on social media platforms, apologizing to the fans that they would not be able to watch her in action in the US capital.

The 34-year-old wrote, “Unfortunately, I had to pull out of Washington due to my problems with US visa. Wanted to apologize to all my fans who were waiting for me there. Never had issues like this in my life. Hopefully, one day I can finally get a visa and play at list some events of the US swing.”

Kuznetsova is the defending champion in Washington and is going to have a huge fall in WTA rankings. She is currently ranked at no. 89 in the world.

Earlier, Svetlana Kuznetsova informed that she has been waiting for her US visa since February. The Russian also said that she has not been given any explanation for why her application is being reviewed for such a long time.

She said, “I have been waiting for the US visa since February to take part in tennis events. All of my questions regarding the delay have been constantly met with the same reply: “Your visa application has been under review.”

“To take my passport back is not the right option to make,” Kuznetsova said last week.

Kuznetsova’s participation at the 2019 US Open is still in doubts as to the visa issue is still unresolved at the moment.
