He is currently the WBA (Super), IBO, and IBF middleweight champion and ranks #10 on ESPN’s list. As of 2022, Gennady Golovkin sits at #1 position on the TBRB and The Ring Magazine and #2 on the ESPN middleweight rankings.

‘GGG’ had a fairly impressive amateur career. He represented Kazakhstan in the 2003 World Championships and won the gold. Golovkin also represented his country in Athens in 2004 and won the silver medal. It is reported he has fought in 350 amateur fights.

In December 2020, Golovkin successfully defended his belts against Kamil Szeremeta. 

Then he successfully retained his IBF and IBO middleweight titles against Ryota Murata. In doing so, he also won the WBA (Super) middleweight title.

Now, he will look to avenge his only professional loss and a draw against Canelo Alvarez in their trilogy fight. Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 3 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, US, on September 17, 2022.

'GGG' and his wife Alina have two kids, one son named Vadim Golovkin and one daughter whose name is unknown as of 2022. It is reported that Golovkin missed his daughter's birth, as she was born days before his first fight with Canelo Alvarez.

Golovkin enjoys playing games with his son Vadim, who is currently in primary school, and spending time with his family.
