Halo Infinite 2021: Release Date, Multiplayer, Gameplay, and Price

Halo Infinite is the latest addition to the Halo franchise. Infinite is the fourteenth overall Halo title developed by 343 Studios and the sixth edition of the main Halo series.

The developers first revealed the game at E3 2018 with an initial trailer. The trailer carried forward the story from Halo 5: Guardians which will continue the story of the Master Chief.

Just like other Halo titles, Infinite will also be a Microsoft exclusive. Therefore, it will be available exclusively on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and the new-gen Xbox Series S|X.

Halo Infinite budget and release date

343 Studio had initially announced the release date for the latest Halo title as November 2020. There are rumors that Infinite has put the biggest dent in 343 Studio's treasury by far as compared to all other Halo titles. The game allegedly cost the developers $500 million to make.

Initially, the game was to launch alongside the new-gen Xbox consoles. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the date had to be pushed indefinitely.

At E3 2021, Microsoft affirmed a Holiday 2021 release timeline for Halo Infinite. Complete with a single-player campaign and free multiplayer, the game will launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC.

During Xbox's 20th Anniversary celebrations on November 15, 2021, 343 pulled off a stunning move by releasing a beta version of the game's multiplayer mode to the public. The final release date for the game was confirmed as December 8, 2021.

Halo Infinite price

The disc version of the game for the Xbox Series X is listed on Amazon US for $59.99. The price for the Halo Infinite PC is also expected to be similar. Moreover, the game will also be a part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The multiplayer co-op mode of the game will be available free of cost, but the campaign mode will be paid.

Halo Infinite download and gameplay

343 Studio revealed the initial gameplay footage of the game during the Showcase Xbox Series X July event. The campaign mode of the game has an open-world setting.

The open-world setting will work through a backtracking mechanism where players can unlock new areas as they progress. Once they have these areas, they will always have to explore as much of the map as they have unlocked.

The story of the game is a continuation of Halo 5: Guardians. While there is still a lot of ambiguity over Infinite's story, there are a few things that fans know.

Firstly, the story will take place on the Zeta Halo, which is one of the remaining Halo rings. More information from the E3 2019 trailer shows a stranded pelican pilot rescuing the Master Chief. These are the prominent characters of the storyline who discuss a past battle that destroyed one of the Halo Rings.

The battle was against the 'Banished Faction' that initially appeared in the spinoff Halo Wars 2. The Banished are most likely to be the antagonist of this story as well.

The local campaign co-op of Infinite in a two-player mode will once again feature a split-screen mode.

The developers had removed this popular mode in the previous game. However, they faced a lot of backlash due to this decision and have therefore decided to re-introduce the mode in the latest edition.

Halo Infinite multiplayer

During the Xbox & Bethesda showcase at E3 2021, 343 Industries provided a deep dive into the game's PvP aspect with an elaborate multiplayer gameplay reveal. The most exciting revelation was perhaps that Halo Infinite's multiplayer will be free-to-play.

There will be two multiplayer modes including Arena and Big Team Battle. While the first mode will feature 4-player squads, the latter suits sandbox-style gameplay with more combat possibilities. Players will get to create and configure their own Spartan hero, thanks to the comprehensive customization system.

Armors, weapons, vehicles, everything will have a variety of customization options, but it will primarily aid the cosmetic appeal. Equipment is making a return with Halo Infinite, and the grappling hook is one such thing. The developers have added a new Razorback vehicle, which can mount larger pieces of equipment and weapons on its rear.

Besides, the free multiplayer mode will include a battle pass which will never expire once purchased. Cross-platform play and cross-progression will also be two other features that Halo Infinite will launch with. Microsoft has also confirmed that the game's multiplayer will support up to 120 FPS on Xbox Series X.
