After enjoying a reign at the top, 'The Messenger' hung up his gloves in 2020, only to announce his comeback after a layoff of three years.

Henry Cejudo's Career Timeline

'Triple C' won his freshman titles in Arizona. In addition, he won the Colorado State Championships (CHSAA) as a junior and also as a senior. These accomplishments enabled him to feature in the USA Wrestling Magazine's Dream Team of High School All-Americans.

In 2006, he joined the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado. Within a year of his senior debut, he won the US National Championship at 55 kilograms. He followed it with a bronze medal at the World Cup in 2007.

The most notable accomplishment in his life came in 2008 when he represented the United States at the Olympics. Cejudo won the gold in the 55kg category and became the youngest American wrestler to do so.

While he switched to MMA, the Los Angeles native had a brief stint in wrestling in 2015 when he faced Tony Ramos at the "Agon V: Iowa against the World" event. However, his opponent scored a come-from-behind victory and spoiled his return. Prior to his debut for UFC in 2014, the Olympic medalist fought under the banner of the World Fighting Federation and Legacy FC.

Cejudo extended his unbeaten record to 10-0 when he was awarded the title shot against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 197. While he failed to secure the title, after a wait of two years, he racked up a split decision win against 'Mighty Mouse' at UFC 227.

Following this, Cejudo mounted a challenge for the vacant UFC bantamweight title and etched his name in history after defeating Marlon Moraes at UFC 238. In a bid to focus on the 135 lbs division, he relinquished his flyweight title.

However, Cejudo surprised the MMA world as he announced his retirement from UFC after successfully defending his title against Dominick Cruz in May 2020. Markedly, he called off his retirement to face Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288 and lost via split decision.

For his next bout against Marlon Vera, in UFC 292, Cejudo withdrew owing to a shoulder injury. And now he is scheduled to face Merab Dvalishvili for UFC 298.
