The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is just around the corner and the 10 teams are prepared for the extravaganza event of cricket which is scheduled to start from May 30 to June 14.
Sri Lanka became the champion of the ICC World Cup 1996. They also have been the runners up of the quadrennial event twice in 2007 and 2011. While they reached the semifinals once in World Cup 2003 and quarterfinals in the past edition. Sri Lanka has a 29-31 win-loss record at the world cup.
After the 2011 World Cup, Sri Lanka has not impacted hits presence in the world of cricket. They were recently whitewashed by South Africa in the 5-match ODI series. Sri Lanka would have a tough time to clear the round-robin and reach the semifinals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
The experience of Lasith Malinga brings depth in Sri Lanka’s bowling lineup. Also with Angelo Mathews making a come back into the team looks on good form and his all-round performance can certainly be helpful for Sri Lanka.
However, Sri Lanka’s batting lineup is very week under pressure. Wickets keep on falling in regular intervals and the side is struggling to make partnerships.
Sri Lanka is coming into the tournament after losing a 5-match ODI series against South Africa. The team was whitewashed by the Proteas at their home. They were also scheduled to play against Scotland in the 2-match ODI series with the first ODI being washed away with rains.
Sri Lanka will face South Africa and Australia in their two warm-up matches before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. They’ll face the Proteas on 24th May and Australia on 27th May.
