Kane Williamson

Profile

Kane Williamson is the only non-Indian captain of an IPL team this season. He first broke into the New Zealand squad in 2010 for Tests and ODIs. A year later, he made his T20 debut for the Kiwis as well.

Incidentally, his Test and ODI debuts were against the Indian cricket team. Meanwhile, his T20 debut was against Zimbabwe in 2011

IPL Career

Kane Williamson made his IPL debut in 2015 with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. In fact, he had pretty much spent his entire IPL career till date with the Sunrisers.

Williamson was also part of the squad that clinched the 2016 title. Two years later, when David Warner stepped down from captaincy following his involvement in a ball-tampering scandal, Williamson took his place.

Under him, the Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the finals, but sadly lost to the Chennai Super Kings. In the same year, he scored a grand total of 735 runs to win the Orange Cap.

Now, for IPL 2019, his services as SRH skipper has been retained.

Expectations for IPL 2019

Heading into IPL 2019, the Sunrisers Hyderabad will have a lot riding on them. Sadly, Williamson is out of action due to injury and so, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the stand-in.

The 28-year old from Tauranga, New Zealand, picked up a shoulder injury ahead of IPL 2019. At that time, New Zealand were facing Bangladesh in a Test match, the second of two Test matches.

Hopefully, he recovers quickly has helps the team reach another triumph in IPL 2019.

Williamson boasts of an average strike rate of 137.41. He has also smashed 39 sixes, the most coming in last year with 28. He also has 11 half centuries under his belt, with eight of them coming in 2018.

The New Zealand skipper was retained for Rs. 3 crores by SRH for IPL 2019.
