Nuno Santo is a Portuguese football manager, who manages the Wolverhampton Wanderers team. His playing career began with Vitória S.C., though he often had to fight for playing time.

After a meeting the agent Jorge Mendes, the latter brokered a $1 million transfer to Deportivo de La Coruña. However, Nuno spent three of his six seasons on loan to Galicia. He even went to FC Porto for much of his career.

In 2000-01 he was loaned to CA Osasuna, where he helped his team barely escape relegation in the top tier. After being shuffled around to various teams, even going to Russia, finally in 2007, Nuno returned to Portugal with C.D. Aves.

After retiring from FC Porto in 2010, Nuno Santo joined Malaga as a goalkeeping coach briefly. In the same year, he went to Greece to join Panathinaikos FC. After spending two years there, he returned to Portugal to join Rio Ave. He helped them qualify for the Taca de Portugal and the Taca da Liga finals, and as a bonus, the UEFA Europa League.

In 2014, he joined Valencia on a one-year contract and even signed an extension in 2015. That would not last as he resigned in November that year. In the following year, he returned to FC Porto, this time as a manager and led them to a 2nd place in the league.

Finally, in 2017, he reached English soil to become the manager of the Wolverhampton Wanderers. Nuno Santo led the club to the Premier League after a six-year absence. In 2018, it was announced that his contract had been extended until 2021.

As a manager, he led Rio Ave to the Taca de Portugal runner up and the Taca da Liga runner-up. In addition to that, he also led Wolverhampton Wanderers to the EFL Championship 2017-18 and a Premier League promotion.

Managerial Style

Wolves are adept at winning the ball back out wide, thereby forcing the opposition centrally. This allows the midfielders to press hard into tackles to win the ball back and move it to the wings. So, the Wolves can exploit the space left and be exceptionally good at counterattacking football.
