Shubman Gill Biography

Shubman Gill rose as the cream of the crop during the 2018 ICC U-19 World Cup. Along with the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Gill guided the team to World Cup glory.

His talent was picked up early and his family pulled out all the stops to ensure that he had the best training. It wasn’t long before he began to hone his skills in the art of cricket.

Among his laurels, he has won Best Junior Cricketer for two consecutive years.

IPL Career

Shubman Gill got his maiden IPL call up in 2018 for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was picked up for an astounding 1.8 crores as KKR won a massive bidding war for the youngster.

Shubman Gill was easily one of the best batsmen in the U-19 World Cup squad. He even trounced the likes of teammate Prithvi Shaw, who was often the talk of the town. Gill’s skill with the willow was evident when he smashed three first-class centuries. He followed it up with 4 centuries in List A cricket.

He possesses a bottom-handed technique, something that has been adopted successfully by Virat Kohli. Gill is also quite quick between the wicket and can interlace singles and doubles with powerful strokes across the ground. Even his fielding prowess is nothing to sniff at.

In his maiden IPL season, he scored a maiden half century with an unbeaten 57*. That year, Shubman Gill boasted of a strike rate of 146.04 and an average of 33.83.

IPL 2019 Expectations

Without a doubt, Shubman Gill is a highly talented batsman and has age on his side. The Knight Riders really struck gold with regard to the 19-year old.
