“I Would Love to Go All The Way” – Caroline Wozniacki

World Number 38 Caroline Wozniacki is all set to commence her final season on the WTA Tour. The Dane announced her retirement from tennis in December 2019. The only Grand Slam champion and World Number one from Scandinavia Wozniacki is excited to kick-start the 2020 season at ASB Classic in Auckland. 

“I’ve prepared exactly the same,” said Caroline Wozniacki. “I’ve prepared 100 percent, the best that I could, and I’m just going to go out there and try and finish on a high. It’s really no different. I need to be in the best shape, I need to do everything possible to give myself the best chance.”

At the Australian Open 2020, Wozniacki will be putting an end to her 15-year-old professional career. She is looking forward to making a deep run at the Melbourne major. “I would love to go all the way. It’s obviously a strong field, but I’m excited about it. I’m excited to hopefully get a few matches under my belt, and just fine-tune everything before the Australian Open,” the Dane added.

She made her Grand Slam breakthrough in 2018 after defeating Simona Halep in a rollercoaster championship match in Melbourne. She doesn’t want to be remembered for her achievements on the WTA track or her longevity in the matches. Rather she will be happy to be associated as a mere ‘hard-worker’.

“Being the first Scandinavian woman to reach No.1 and win a Slam is something very special, something I’m always going to be very proud of. Honestly, I just hope that I’ll be remembered as a very hard worker and someone who’s kind to the people around her,” said Wozniacki.

Doubles with Serena Williams

In Auckland, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki have confirmed their play doubles play at ASB Classic 2020. The duo Williams and Wozniacki have never played professional tennis together.

Also, Serena will be playing her first women’s doubles match of her career where she will be in tandem with someone other than her sister Venus Williams. The women’s game at ASB Classic 2020 will be getting underway from Monday, January 6.
