The defending champion in Acapulco, Nick Kyrgios retired from his first-round encounter with a wrist injury against France’s Ugo Humbert. Upon retiring from the match, the crowd in Acapulco, Mexico booed at him.

After receiving that gesture Kyrgios was livid in the press conference. “I’m not healthy. I tried to come here, I tried to play. I’ve been doing media here and helping out. I tried to play, I tried to give the fans a little bit of tennis. And then they’re disrespectful,” he said.

After a flourishing summer season in his home country of Australia, the month of February has been taxing for Nick Kyrgios. Recently, he withdrew from Delray Beach Open with a wrist injury and that persisted while he crossed the US border and landed in Mexico.

“My wrist is just not ready to play. I could feel it on every backhand. It’s unfortunate after the memories I had last year. It’s tough for me,” he added.

Failing to defend his 500 ATP points this week in Acapulco, Kyrgios’ World Number 23 ranking falls to number 38.
