The women’s game of tennis is witnessing a new face picking up the major title every single Grand Slam. Whereas on the ATP Tour the major titles keep revolving around the ‘Big Three’. At times, the other best players in the world get frustrated upon failing to break the rhythm of the trinity. One such example is Dominic Thiem, who has thrice reached the finals of a Grand Slam but ended up surrendering to a ‘Big Three’ contender.

Thiem aspires to replace the liege lords of tennis while they are flourishing on the crest on the sport. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic all of them have supported to evolve his game and play tennis at the highest level. However, he aims to dethrone them on the major courts in the upcoming days and remark the beginning of the new era. 

“I’m happy I can compete with these guys on the best level. I really hope also that I win my maiden Slam when they’re still around because it just counts more,” he said. In the Melbourne finals against Novak Djokovic, the Austrian was just a few points away from making his breakthrough in the major courts.

With the dominance of the trio, who are residing on the Grand Slam thrones and making a few mistakes here and there, Thiem advanced to accept the silver plate.

“These guys brought tennis to a complete new level. They also brought me probably to a much better level. I think it was amazing how the matches went this week. It’s great tennis. It’s a great show for everybody. Of course, it would be or it was easier for sure in a different era to win big titles. That’s 100 percent,” Dominic Thiem said.

After closing out the first set with a double-fault, Thiem wrapped up the second one. In the third set, it was one-way traffic. With Thiem on the driver’s seat, he sprinted to take a 4-0 lead. The time-violations from the chair umpire affected Novak’s game in between. However, with Thiem making some costly unforced forced errors, Djokovic served out for his 17th Grand Slam title.
