“Got to Step it Up With That Animal Instinct” – Felix Auger-Aliassime Creates History at US Open 2020

The rising star from Canada Felix Auger-Aliassime is enjoying his career-best run at the US Open 2020. The 20-year-old tennis maestro defeated France’s Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-0, 6-4, and advanced to the fourth round at the American Slam.
With that, he became the first-ever ATP player born in the 2000s to advance to the Round of 16 at Grand Slam. Also, for the first-ever time in the history of Open Era Canadian tennis, three Canadian male tennis players are through to the fourth round of a Grand Slam.
Along with Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov and Vasek Pospisil have also earned their tickets to the Round of 16 at the New York Major.

After his straightforward win against Moutet, Auger-Aliassime reflected on his beast form on the ATP courts.

“I’m here to impose myself. Outside the court, I’m a pretty kind person but once I step on the court, it’s the best man that wins. Only one survives. You’ve got to step it up with that animal and killer instinct,” he said after his record-breaking win.
At US Open 2020, World Number 21 Felix Auger-Aliassime eliminated three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray in the second round.

Almost a decade ago, 11-year-old Auger-Aliassime had bought tickets for US Open 2011 and he was enjoying the third-round encounter between Murray and Feliciano López on Arthur Ashe. And nine years later the same tennis fan from Montreal created history at the Major event.

He played a tough first-round match against Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro. In the fourth Felix Auger-Aliassime will face the victor of Dominic Thiem vs Marin Cilic.
As far as his compatriots are concerned, Shapovalov is slated to take on David Goffin and Vasek will go up against Alex De Minaur in the pre-quarterfinals of the Flushing Meadows Slam.
