Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta is holding the fort for the country in the absence of Rafael Nadal. The young gun played a phenomenal quarterfinal match against Canada’s Denis Shapovalov and earned a ticket to his second US Open semifinal.
Last week, Carreno Busta won his third-round match and advanced into the pre-quarterfinals at US Open 2020. Following that, Aussie tennis player Nick Kyrgios tweeted, “If clay didn’t exist. Dude wouldn’t have even been close to top 50.” Soon, the tweet was deleted.

Pertaining to Nick’s statistical response, Pablo recently said: “He must be pretty bored… when he comes back to tournaments, we will talk about him because he deserves it and in the meantime, well nothing, he will continue to tweet from home.”
Unfortunately for Nick, his statistics are completely detached from facts. Carreno Busta holds a better winning percentage on hard courts when compared to the clay surface. While he has won three hardcourt titles, his only title on clay was in Estoril, Portugal.

Meanwhile, in the other semifinal, Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev will be locking horns. Both of them have played Major finals before but fell short on the last lap.
Defending US Open finalist Medvedev prepares himself for a taxing semifinal match against Thiem. “Yeah, Dominic is a tough opponent to play, especially of course on clay. I got to feel it last year in the final of Barcelona,” he said.
