Recently, the Lindt & Sprüngli’s Home of Chocolate inaugurated a chocolate museum. Chairman Ernst Tanner, tennis ace Roger Federer and Federal Councilor Ueli Maurer all helped in the ceremony.

“In the first part of the building we show visitors what a chocolate can do,” Tanner said. “From the harvest in Ghana to the entire production process. Most Swiss have probably never seen that before.”

Suffice to say, former world number 1, Roger Federer, is extremely excited. The Swiss tennis ace said, “The Lindt Home of Chocolate is a unique chocolate experience and I look forward to coming here with my kids.”

Meanwhile, Maurer declared that chocolate is part of Switzerland’s identity. He also stressed that the chocolate industry plays an important role in the country’s economy. Therefore, he feels that it is important to promote chocolate in order to strengthen Switzerland’s status as a business hub.

How does Roger Federer tie in with this?

Federer is the brand ambassador of Lindt Chocolate, so it was practically a given that he would be present. The major highlight of the museum is a 9-meter high chocolate fountain, from which flows around 1.4 tons of chocolate.

The museum also houses a research and development center. According to Tanner, the idea is to help the brand extend its lead over its competitors.

Apparently, the entire project took seven years to complete, and from the looks of it, it was all worthwhile. Despite the dimensions, the construction went smoothly. In November 2019, the building was finally ready so that the interior work could begin and was on schedule.

According to the chairman, the chocolate museum can expect around 350,000 visitors on an annual basis. He concluded, “I don’t need a memorial. If I have a monument, it is Lindt & Sprüngli’s performance over the past 27 years.”
