“Nothing But Love and Respect” – Grigor Dimitrov Speaks Out on Maria Sharapova’s Retirement

Tennis fans all around the world were blown upon hearing the sudden retirement news of Maria Sharapova. Sadly, her flourishing career had to end with an injury and no formal send-off could be arranged. Numerous tennis icons congratulated her for the thriving WTA career which she has had. And also her former longtime boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov wished her luck for her upcoming endeavors.
“There’s so much I can say, [though] it’s not the place for me to say much. Maria is who she is,” Dimitrov told Prakash Amritraj after his second-round victory in Acapulco. “Nothing but love and respect for that person. We’re great friends.”
The five-time Grand Slam champion Sharapova is involved in numerous business ventures. The most famous one, Sugerpova (her candy business) has been immensely successful over the years. 22 countries around the world have access to Sugerpova candies.

“I know one thing’s for sure: whatever she takes on, she’s going to do it at her best. I’m sure we’re going to see a lot from her in the future,” Grigor added.

In Acapulco, Mexico Dimitrov saved two match points to overcome Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-7(8), 6-2, 7-6(2) in an epic second-round match.
“All I had to do was to stay in the match and fight. I don’t know why I have to make it so hard, but it what it is,” Dimitrov said. “The atmosphere here was electric once again. I’m just going to appreciate this moment.”
