The ATP Finals is the last event of the season and it is one that Rafael Nadal hasn’t won. He did come close back in 2010 and in 2013 but could not cross the finishing line. Looking to win in 2020, he recently talked about his preparation going into the event.

“I don’t know how close I was to a perfect preparation. The four matches in Bercy should help and I have two more days to prepare for a tough opening match against Rublev,” he said.

This year is the last time that the ATP Finals will be held in London as it is moving to Italy next year.

“The experience to play the finals in London has been one of the best. It was one of the best events. The ATP did a great job in choosing London. It is not fair to finish the finals without crowd. But an event like this needs to move around the world.“

At last year’s ATP Finals, Rafael Nadal lost his very first round-robin match. He did win the other 2 but unfortunately; it was not enough for him to qualify for the semi-finals. He will try to avoid this mistake this year.

“The beginning of the tournament is very important. Last year I started in a very negative way, in fact the rupture of the abdominal made me arrive with less preparation and winning a few games was not enough. I hope to be ready” he said.

Rafa has a tough path ahead of him at this year’s ATP finals as Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev are in his group. He will have to be at his best to beat them and hopefully, he will be able to do that.
