Former World Number one Serena Williams had a tough time in the year 2019. She was not just struggling to win consecutive non-Slam matches in the first half of the season, even completing the tournaments had become a challenge for Williams.
The legendary player Williams was plagued with injuries and right from the beginning of the 2019 season. At the Australian Open 2019, Serena had a match point in the quarterfinal against Karolina Pliskova. But she landed up twisting her ankle in the match and consequently gave the victory to the Czech player.
During the American Double Sunshine, Serena retired from Indian Wells and withdrew from Miami due to her knee issues. In Rome, she withdrew from her match against Venus Williams again pertaining to injury issues.

Serena Williams’ 2019 dilemmas
“To be honest, I always try to play. I just am constantly injured. Last year I rolled my ankle and was out for several weeks. The one after Miami, I even offered to come as a hitting partner. My knee was so bad. I missed all the clay-court season basically until the French Open,” Serena Williams mentioned during her Fed Cup 2020 presser.

After reaching the finals at Wimbledon 2019, Serena Williams had triumphant run at Rogers Cup, but due to back spasms, she sorrowfully retired from the finals against Bianca Andreescu. Post that, she flew to Mason, Ohio, but withdrew from Cincinnati Open.

Certainly this year, World Number nine Williams seems to be injury-free. She snapped her two-year-old title-less streak in Auckland and completed the Aussie Open without any injury issues

At Fed Cup 2020 Williams won over Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, but the next day she lost to Anastasija Sevastova. However, with Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sofia Kenin winning the decisive doubles rubber, Team USA qualified for the Fed Cup finals in Budapest, Hungary.
