Team USA has earned their tickets to the Fed Cup Finals 2020 in Budapest, Hungary with Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sofia Kenin’s victory over Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova. And USA’s tennis icon Serena Williams won and lost a match for her team.

With Serena venturing into her fourth decade and playing against at least four different generations on the WTA Tour, she pleased to witness the upcoming faces of American tennis. It’s a pleasure to share the courts with them.  

“It’s great. I’m always so excited to see young American players do well,” she shared. “I’m a little bit biased for obvious reasons. It’s always super exciting to play among the future of tennis, to know that it’s going to be a really strong flag they’re carrying. It’s pretty cool.”

“I‘m the ultimate veteran” – Serena Williams 

Williams was asked about being a ‘veteran’ in the sport and having carried the flag of American tennis for more than 24 years on the WTA circuit.

“Obviously with the ‘veterans’ it’s kind of hard because it’s, like, wait, I’m the ultimate veteran. I feel like they’re the young ones as well (laughter). It’s always great. The whole team is really, really fantastic. It’s fun,” she added.
