World Number 163 Eugenie Bouchard was recently on the receiving end of some positive news. Her exceptional run in the Istanbul Open has cemented her wild card entry into the French Open 2020.

The French Open is all set to start from September 21, although the main draw will commence a week later. Bouchard is elated with the wild card entry since it grants her direct entry into the main draw. Meanwhile, other wild card entrants will have to play the qualifiers.

Bouchard is over the moon with the big break and will want to perform well in the Roland Garros. In an interview, she spoke about how the news had startled her. “I was honestly shocked,the Canadian stated.

Bouchard’s talent had taken the tennis world by storm and her meteoric rise drew attention. She reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the French Open in 2014 and proved herself worthy of top tier tennis. She also reached the finals of the Wimbledon Championship in 2014, where she ended up being the runner-up.

Following this success, Bouchard struggled to keep her form in the following session. After suffering a string of defeats throughout the year, she made a comeback with the US Open. She breezed through the earlier rounds with ease and was having a dream tournament. However, the good times didn’t last long as she suffered a concussion and withdrew from the tournament.

Since then, Bouchard has only shown flashes of her brilliance. Injuries and an off-form have kept her away from what she is capable of showcasing. She lost out in the third round of the qualifiers in the Australian Open. However, with direct entry into the main draw of the French Open, she will hope to put up a decent performance.
