Karolina Pliskova on Her Chances Against Naomi Osaka at Brisbane International 2020

The Japanese sensation of tennis Naomi Osaka continues her winning-streak from the 2019 season. As she reserves a spot in the semifinals of Brisbane International 2020 by winning her 14th consecutive match on the WTA Tour. Asia’s ace Osaka played three challenging matches in the Australian city. And now she takes on the astute server Karolina Pliskova in the semifinals of Brisbane.  Ahead of their clash, Pliskova mentioned that their previous meetings have mostly concluded with a slight margin of difference.

“Last time we played in Melbourne and it was pretty close, all the matches are always one break in each set. There are not many chances because she can serve well, I can serve well, so it’s going to be about a couple of points,” World Number two Karolina Pliskova said.

They have met each other four times on the WTA circuit and have traded victories by setting their head-to-head tally as 2-2. Previously, they played at Australian Open 2019 semifinals and Pliskova lost in three tight sets.

WTA’s service queens

Both of them are among the best servers on the WTA Tour. In 2019 Karolina slammed 488 aces and that was the highest count on the women’s track. And Naomi’s total was 363 aces and that was the fourth-highest total. They also have a decent first-serve percentage. However last year Pliskova committed 114 double faults more than Osaka.

Naomi Osaka on a 14-match winning streak

After the US Open 2019, Naomi Osaka resurged on the WTA Tour as an undefeated phenom. She triumphed in her hometown Osaka, Japan, and then kept winning matches in Beijing. At China Open 2019 she toppled over the top-seed Ashleigh Barty in the finals. Later in Shenzhen, at WTA Finals 2019, the Japanese ace won a match before withdrawing from the tournament due to an injury.

However, in Brisbane, her shoulder injury from the year-end tournament in 2019 is not bothering her anymore. Osaka seems confident with her form in Australia and she has found her natural grooves to play challenging matches.

“I know I’m playing like the best players in the world here and every round for me is really hard, so I’m just thinking about the things I can control during the match. My automatic reaction is just to like tell myself I’m doing bad and I need to do better, but most of the time I think I need to realize that the better players that I play, they will also figure things out,”  World Number four Naomi Osaka stated.
