Houston Texans, after improving their record with a 27-24 win over Oakland Raiders will have to do without their star defensive end JJ Watt for the rest of the year.

Watt was injured with just under six minutes left to play in the second quarter. After a trip into the medical tent, Watt was sent to the Texans’ locker room for further evaluation. Watt was officially ruled out of the game at the start of the third quarter.

Watt’s tweet on Monday confirmed that he will be out for the rest of the year.

Before exiting, Watt was having a huge day against the Raiders with three tackles, a tackle for a loss and a pass breakup. Overall, Watt had four sacks, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in his first eight games the season. His team had the top place in the AFC South in sight, and now they will have to continue the race without their star defender.

For Texans coach Bill O’Brien, this won’t be the first time he will be without his reliable defensive end given Watt’s injury history.

“Unfortunately, we’ve been in this position before,” O’Brien said after the game, via KHOU TV. “There’s not going to be one guy that takes his place if that’s the case, but certainly, we’ll miss him.”

But it will not be the easiest of jobs for O’Brien with quite a few players from the Texans team sitting out off injury.
