On the ATP Player Blog, Gilles Simon wrote a lot about the top 4 tennis players – Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray. He talked about the challenge they posed and said,
“For a long time, the biggest problem my generation faced was that the top four players — Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray — were too good. For someone like me who was in the middle of these guys’ careers, it was a nightmare.”

Every tennis player would have probably had the same feeling as the ‘Big 4’ were just that good. They have dominated the ATP tour for a long time and they have dominated so much that a victory against them was very special for Gilles Simon. He said,
“It was a chance to play with the best players and to compete against them. Every win I earned against them was a huge performance in itself, having a chance to test yourself against guys who are some of the best players ever.”

“Now I’m happy if the young guys can finally beat them. We need that for the sport. I think this new generation of players, many of whom are under 23 years old, they play super good. They will lead the sport in the future and I’m really happy to see that.”
The NextGen is very close to breaking the reign of the ‘Big 4’. Dominic Thiem came very close this year to winning his first Slam but he sadly lost to Djokovic. Hopefully, he will be able to it when the ATP Tour returns in August.
