The Baker Mayfield-Cleveland Browns drama is over for good. The entire offseason had everyone wrapped up in a mystery. Now, the answers are finally out. After an enigmatic offseason, Mayfield is out of Cleveland. The athlete is now off to Carolina to become a Panther and their new quarterback.
Many considered the 2022 NFL Draft as a place to trade up for Baker Mayfield. Even though the Panthers were in talks for the QB, they could not make it happen. It allowed them to trade up and get Matt Corral. However, that was not enough for Carolina, and they conferred on the situation to get Mayfield in the mix.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Panthers get the No. 1 overall pick from the Browns for a 2024 conditional 5th-round draft pick. Moreover, as per ESPN, Mayfield’s remaining salary is split between the Panthers for $4.85 million and the Browns for $10.5 million. A physical examination is awaiting approval of the exchange.

Baker Mayfield‘s time with the Browns was dubious. He entered the team and reached new heights. He led the Browns to their first playoff victory in 26 years in 2020. However, his position in the franchise declined after on-field struggles and more. It prompted the Browns’ front office to look for Mayfield’s replacement. Conclusively, the franchise signed disputed QB Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans on a fully guaranteed contract as his replacement.
