Liverpool FC have been making it clear that even though Monaco winger Thomas Lemar is a target, they have not approached him. Rumours have widely tipped the Frenchman as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho. But some have suggested that manager Jurgen Klopp thinks that the price tag is a bit ‘excessive’. Lemar debuted with Monaco in the 2016-17 season and has been a key player. With Coutinho jumping ship, Liverpool are in dire need of a decent player.

Last summer, Lemar was heavily linked to the Premier League side. Some say that rival club Arsenal had agreed to a £90m fee with Monaco on transfer deadline day in August. However, the proposed move broke down because many believed that Lemar preferred a move to Anfield. Interestingly, Klopp seemed to hesitate to peer into the transfer market despite the massive payday from Coutinho’s high profile switch to Barcelona.

The club have ‘dismissed reports that they have agreed personal terms’ with Thomas Lemar. That certainly seemed to be the case when Klopp effectively confirmed that Liverpool are not seriously considering anyone.

The German said, “If something jumps in my face, maybe we would think about it but we don’t actively try to find new players that we don’t know. I’ve said it before, we have to use the players that we have. That makes sense. We have really high-quality players, especially Adam Lallana. [Lallana] is not the replacement for Philippe Coutinho, he is a completely different player but a fantastic player. He is back, that is good. Are we active? No.”

The 22-year old is also being eyed by Barcelona but Liverpool are in no hurry to make their move. The Reds are back in action on Saturday evening when they face West Brom in an all-Premier League tie in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
