THRILLING: Eugenie Bouchard’s Most Watched Match of the 2020 Season

The year 2020 was a resurgence for Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard. She made it to a WTA final in Istanbul. She made it to the third round of the French Open this year, and it was her best performance at the majors in over 3 years. Besides, Eugenie also made it to the quarterfinals at two WTA events.
After performing better this season as compared to recent years, the match she played against Amanda Anisimova was her most-watched match on YouTube this year. However, the Canadian ended up on the losing side. The American got the better of Bouchard and went on to win the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at the ASB Classic in Auckland earlier this year.

Their match lasted close to two hours. Bouchard suffered that day because she was unable to win points on her second serve. Had the Canadian managed to win that match, it would’ve been her second match win over a seeded player in that tournament. Eugenie has had a fruitful run at this venue.

Last year, Genie was a quarterfinalist too, although she ended up winning the doubles event partnering America’s Sofia Kenin. After the resumption of tennis from the pandemic break, Bouchard did show promising signs. She upset eight seed Veronika Kudermetova in the opening round of the Prague Open and went on before losing in the quarter-finals.

When Bouchard first emerged at the top level back in 2014, she did seem to challenge for the highest honors in the sport. All her best performances at the majors were in the same year. She made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open and at Roland Garros that year. The Canadian was also the finalist at Wimbledon.
For a player of Eugenie’s quality, who has shown what she’s capable of producing, it would be a great comeback if she can acquire those results of 2014.
