“Took Me Under His Wings”: Patrick Mouratoglou, Caroline Wozniacki and Others Mourn for Bob Brett’s Demise

On January 5,  2021, the world lost one of the greatest tennis coaches in history. Australian coach Bob Brett died aged 67 due to cancer, and the whole tennis community mourned his death. From Serena Williams‘ coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, to former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, everyone felt for the Australian.

Bob Brett has coached several Grand Slam champions like Boris Becker, Johan Kriek, Goran Ivanisevic, and others. Notably, he won three Grand Slams with Boris Becker and one Grand Slam with Kriek. He proved to be a great inspiration for upcoming coaches. Patrick Mouratoglou keenly followed the Australian and credits Brett for who he is now.

“I was just starting out as a coach and he was my star – one of the best coaches in the world. He trusted me, believed in me, took me under his wings and taught me the job. He was my mentor and I can’t thank him enough.⁣ Rest In peace, my dear friend Bob Brett,” Mouratoglou tweeted.

Wozniacki also paid her tribute to the great coach. She tweeted, “Terrible news! RIP Bob, you will be missed”

Tennis coach and Andy Murray‘s mother Judy Murray wrote a few heartfelt words for Bob Brett. She revealed a few insightful thoughts about him and said, “Bob Brett gave me so much of his time + advice over so many years + I will always be very grateful for his words of wisdom + encouragement.”

Goran Ivanisevic pays tribute to Bob Brett

Bob Brett’s former student Goran Ivanisevic posted an emotional message for his former coach.

“We shared so much, the good and the bad, and you have been the one who taught me the most in my career. Your legacy will continue to live forever as the tennis world will never forget what an amazing person and coach you were,” Ivanisevic wrote on Instagram.

Recently, in light of his great coaching career, Brett was awarded the Tim Gullikson Career Coach Award at the 2020 ATP Awards. He was very much loved by his peers and players, and this award was a reflection of his hard work and legacy.
