It is a task to be an umpire in international cricket. Standing all day long observing every movement of the ball, the test format almost seems inhuman where one has to stand for five days in a row signalling, deciding, observing and bearing the hot sun. Back in 2002, the ICC introduced the Emirates Elite Panel of Umpires. These Umpires could officiate international test and one day matches. The umpires drafted into this Elite panel have special perks they not only get paid generous salaries but also travel across the globe for international matches for free, thanks to Emirates airlines, their sponsor.

We are aware about the huge sums the players pocket every year, but ever wondered how much do these umpire get paid? Though their job is more demanding than their football counter parts, the cricket umpires, even the ones at the top level do not get paid as much as them. But well the amount isn’t small either. The umpires drafted in the ICC Elite Panel are given yearly contracts where in they are rewarded with a basic annual salary along with match fees which differs on the basis of the format officiated. The performances of the umpires are continuously monitored and their match fees and basic salary are decided on the basis of one’s experience. Irrespective of that the basic salary of an umpire newly induced in the ICC panel is $ 35,000 add onto that the match fees.
