The United States of America is going through some tough and turbulent times. The death of George Floyd has sparked widespread anger across the country, leading many to take to the streets to protest. North America is a huge market for the gaming industry. Naturally, such a sensitive situation has repercussions for gaming companies. In fact, we’ve already seen many voice their support for the protestors, one of which was Activision Blizzard. However, some members of the community are calling them out for hypocrisy.
Community calls out Activision for hypocrisy
Back in October, Blizzard Entertainment, a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, took strict action against a hearthstone player. It banned a pro named Ng “Blitzchung” Wai Chung for supporting the protests in Hong Kong. It further banned users on its Twitch chat for the same.

Having come under immense scrutiny and backlash, Blizzard later apologized to its community. However, all it did was reduce Blitzchung’s ban from a year to six months. Moreover, they were careful not to mention Hong Kong or China. Many suspect they dared not do more given its ties to China.

It is apparent that a lot of people are miffed that Activision Blizzard did not say a word in support of the Hong Kong protestors.
Well, in Hong Kong, if they supported the protestors, they lose money. Here, if they support protestors, they gain money

Activision isn’t the only one being called out by fans. Sony is another company that postponed its digital event in the wake of the situation. One twitter user reminded everyone how the tech giants did something similar to Blizzard.
Didn't Sony remove pictures from the Hong Kong protests for their world photography competition?
And now they delayed their event because they care about the people?
