“I was in China for the last four weeks and I was really trying hard to learn some Chinese but I could not do it, sorry guys,” Coric said. “I want to say well done to Novak, he was just on a whole other level today. He is one of the best in the history of the tennis so really well done.”

“Hello everybody, I don’t want to make Borna look bad,” Djokovic addressed the crowd, before speaking in fluent Mandarin. He was praised by the Sky Sports pundit Greg Rusedski for speaking to the Asian supporters in their mother tongue. “He is a very bright person and speaks five languages,” Rusedski said. “He wants to go down as the greatest player to ever play this game and he is looking very strong right now.”

“I want to thank you guys for making this event very special. This is definitely one of the most special ATP 1000 events in the world,” he said. Back in 2008, I won my first Masters cup and that opened a lot of doors for me and made me the player I am today. This is a special place for me. I want to congratulate Borna and his team on a great week. Tough match today but you showed to the world that we are going to see a lot more of your tennis at this level. I would like to thank my team and my family back home. Everyone who has been supporting me”.

Djokovic further continued, “The last four months have been tremendous and I am very grateful to make so many great results all over the world. I am cherishing every moment and last but not least, I want to thank the tournament organisers and all the volunteers.”

Djokovic swept aside the 21-year-old Croatian, Borna Coric to defend his fourth title in Shanghai. With that, very soon he will be taking the lead in becoming the year-end World Number one player. And the twitter arena reacted to Djokovic’s victory as he secured his victory in China.
