With Lewis Hamilton at the back of the grid with a mammoth 55 place grid drop following multiple changes with his Power unit, his title rival made the most of it by taking in the pole position from a hard fighting teenager, Max Verstappen while Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen line up third.
Sebastian Vettel lined up on the grid in fourth while Ricciardo completed the top five.
