Twitter reacts to new halo cockpit in F1

By 5 years ago

Taking inspiration from Mercedes concept car with a different cockpit, Ferrari decided to test their own prototype i.e the halo cockpit on the penultimate day of the pre-season training  in Barcelona which took place from March 1,2016 to March 4,2016.

Kimi Raikkonen was the first Ferrari driver to test it and was pretty satisfied with it. FIA said that they are constantly trying to enhance the safety features in F1 which may include the new halo cockpit protection gear in the 2017 season.

As one can imagine, the Formula One world erupted upon learning about the new cockpit design. Many fans, commentators, Formula One legends and drivers voiced their opinions.

There were mixed responses from all over the world with people supporting more security in F1 while other people thought that it makes the cars look ugly, reduces the range of vision of a driver and makes the sport more dull and boring.

People like Raikkonen, Vettel, Ricciardo and Rosberg  welcomed the new move by FIA. Felipe Massa, who suffered head injuries when his helmet was struck by debris in 2009 also spoke in favour of the new safety system, while there were drivers such as triple world champion Lewis Hamilton and Nico Hulkenberg who vehemently opposed the move and suggested that the drivers should be allowed whether to have the new safety cockpit or not.

Have a look at the best tweets from the Formula One world as they discussed the pros and cons of the new safety mod.
